What happens if baby is born with low birth weight?

In the case of well-fed mothers, the weight of the baby at birth is usually 3.5 kg. But Indian babies weigh an average of 2.8 to 2.9 kg at birth. It is very important to record the weight of the baby within one hour of birth. These measurements determine the baby's chances of growth and survival.

Weight less than 2.5 kg (up to 2.499 and up) at birth is defined internationally as low birth weight (LBW for short). It is important to measure the baby's weight within the first hour of life before any postnatal damage occurs. The baby may be born after or before the full term. In both cases there is a complete measure of low birth weight.

Premature birth: Babies born prematurely or prematurely, ie 36 weeks before conception, may have normal growth in the uterus, such as weight, length and growth. These babies need proper care from birth to 2 to 3 years of age. In developed countries, low birth weight babies are premature babies. The reasons for this are multiple pregnancies, serious infections, toxemia, early pregnancy, strenuous physical activity, etc., and in many cases the cause is unknown.

Small for Date (SFD): This type of baby can be born at or before maturity. Their weight may be less than 10 percent of the age of the prescribed period. It is associated with corresponding fetal growth. The majority of children in developing countries are underweight at birth due to SFD. There are many reasons for this birth-weight loss. Notable among these are maternal malnutrition, anemia, early childbearing, multiple pregnancies, hypertension, toxemia and malaria. Socio-economic status and educational status are behind most of the reasons. Fetal issues include: multiple pregnancies (two or three babies), uterine infections, abnormalities, and chromosomal abnormalities. Reasons for ovarian ovulation include its abnormality and insufficiency of qualitatively developed eggs.
